2DTV is the World's first topical animated sketch show.

Likened to a Spitting Image for the 21st Century, 2DTV uses caricatures and impressions of the famous, to satirise the week's news. Taking an irreverent, 'take no-prisoners' attitude, it sends up politicians, celebrities and Royals alike.

The ground breaking process behind 2DTV combines traditional animation skills, with specially designed computer software. The result is a level of quick-turnaround animation, never seen before. Almost 50% of every half-hour episode is written and animated in the week leading up to transmission, enabling the team to react to the very latest breaking news stories, and deliver an extremely topical product, to a very high standard.

The software used has been developed in collaboration with the animators making it tailor-made to the specific needs of 2DTV. All the characters and backgrounds are designed with pen and ink, then digitised and manipulated within the software. Using these methods ensures an appealing product, that still has the look of more traditional animation, but can be turned around at very high speed.

A combination of imaginative writing, beautiful designs, excellent voice impressions, slick animation, and state-of-the-art computer software has established 2DTV as must-see television in the UK.

2DTV was piloted in March 2001 on ITV1, and the success of this pilot led to an immediate series commission. 2DTV was first broadcast in October and November 2001 on Sunday nights at 10.00pm, and consisted of 6 x 10 minute programmes. The first show was watched by over eight million viewers.

As the innovative production process was perfected, it became possible to make half hour programmes, and from series three onwards, 2DTV was broadcast in its longer half-hour format.

There have been five series of 2DTV broadcast on ITV1 – they are all available on DVD.
